CFA - Chartered Financial Analyst is an examination conducted twice every year. The international CFA equips a person with requisite financial skills so as to perform detailed financial analysis about companies.

If you are looking for a hard core finance career. Like Equity research, Investment Banking etc, taking a CFA certification is advisable.

One Caveat: The fee to appear for the exam is extremely high i.e around 50K per exam. The pass ratio is not very high, but if you study well and have a passion for finance, then the exam is not that difficult to crack.

@Rahul- Just got to know from Cfa website that the pass percentage 4 Level-1 was 42%(worldwide)for June 2010 exam....so my Ist query is - how much candidates(approx.)from india were able to qualify this level-1 exam in the recent past...

IInd Query- Whether Level 2&3 are also conducted twice a year or not??

IIIrd Query- Actually I'm 4rm science background & have decided to go 4 mba(Finance)& planning to do this CFA Certification side by side...so i need ur suggestions & advice over this....

Good to know that you are doing a proper research before getting full steam into CFA preparation.
Here are answers to your queries:
1. There is no exact number specified who clear the exam from india, but a sizeable number of condidates appear from india and a good number of people have cleared CFA.

2. Generally speaking Level 2 is considered to be the toughest of the three CFA levels and it happens once in a year (June) only. CFA level 1 is conducted twice in June and December.
CFA institute from last 2 years have started to conduct these exams in India. In june 2010, Delhi became a center too otherwise people had to travel to mumbai or foreign destinations to take the exam.

3. A lot of entusiasts who take CFA are either MBA students, working professionals or Graduates. I would suggest you to appear of CFA during your study time only as taking out time while working can become challenging. Frankly speaking the level is not very tough, but it makes sense to go for CFA coaching as you do not have the requisite background.
